Pancasila Day Ceremony
Pancasila, as the foundation of the Republic of Indonesia, is the principal basis that shapes the identity and nationality of all Indonesian citizens. Every year, on June 1st, the Indonesian nation commemorates the Birth of Pancasila Day to honor the values that underpin the country. As part of this celebration, various ceremonies are held across the country, including in schools. At SD President, a school committed to educating the younger generation to become future leaders, this ceremony is a very important moment in their academic activities.
Understanding the Meaning of the Birth of Pancasila Day
Since the enactment of Pancasila as the foundation of the state on June 1, 1945, Indonesia has commemorated this significant day annually with ceremonies honoring the values contained in Pancasila. The Birth of Pancasila Day provides an opportunity for Indonesian citizens to reflect on the meaning and significance of the five principles that serve as the foundation of the nation: Belief in One Supreme God, Just and Civilized Humanity, The Unity of Indonesia, Democracy Guided by the Inner Wisdom of Deliberations Among Representatives, and Social Justice for All Indonesians.
Preparation and Implementation of the Ceremony at SD President
At SD President, preparations for the Birth of Pancasila Day ceremony begin several days before June 1st. Teachers collaborate with students to prepare all the necessary items, including ceremony equipment, seating arrangements, as well as choir rehearsals and marching drills.
On the morning of June 1st, the atmosphere at SD President is filled with a spirit of nationalism and patriotism. Students arrive at school in their neat uniforms and wear red and white attributes as symbols of the nation. They gather in the school field, under the proudly waving Red and White flag, to begin the ceremony.
Ceremony Sequence
The ceremony starts with a salute to the flag and the singing of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya” with full admiration. It continues with the raising of the Red and White flag by selected students from various grade levels. A solemn atmosphere fills the field as the flag waves high on the pole, reminding all attendees of the nation’s pride and greatness.
After the flag-raising, the event proceeds with the reading of the Pancasila text by a specially chosen student for this task. This is an important moment where the student demonstrates their understanding and respect for Pancasila values.
The Importance of Pancasila Education at SD President
SD President views Pancasila education as a crucial aspect of character building for students.
